February 18, 2010 By: Pamela Category: Blog Hops, Card Art, blog candy

This post is stuck to the top til Monday. For new posts, please srcoll down. thanks!
Official start:  Feb, 19 -08:00 (EST)
This blog hop will end on Feb 22 , 2200 (that’s 8 pm, EST)

Theme: Love Lyrics/Romance Songs

I had SO many ideas for this theme: “Do you love me… check yes or no”; “She signs her letters with xs and os”….and ended up with “Hey Mr. Postman….is there a letter for me???” lol…go figure! I’m writing a sweet note to my dh and mailing to his work addy….wont’ that be a fun surprise when the mail cart comes thru?? grin  The birds remind me of a kids song my mom taught us when we were younger (in German) about a little bird that that ” lands on my foot, with a letter in her beak from my mother.”  I was found myself humming it the entire time I was making this card…lol…

Please Mr. Postman....

Stamp set used: Heart Strings, You Hoooo, With a Flourish, Snail Mail, Going Postal (retired)      Digital image used: Conversation Heart Papers: Plain white cs, copy paper, DCWV blue scrapbook paper, Halcraft Card base-6.5×5             Colors: Copics, Triart Markers       Inks: Adirondack-sailboat blue, yellow sunshine; Stampabilities-baby blue; Memento-black          Extras: Sakura gelly roll pen-clear star, white    Ribbon-Michael’s;  hand colored dew drops

Steps:

  1. Inked the background of a plain white card base with yellow and blue inks, using a kitchen sponge.
  2. Stamped the postage stamp, added the heart image (heart strings), colored the heart and then stamped the canceled postage images (Going Postal)
  3. Stamped the flourishes in baby blue on one side.
  4. Printed the digital image-plain white cs. Stamped the heart inside the large heart, (heart strings) colored  all, then stamped the XO (heart strings). Ink edges using Whisped Frames (TJ)  technique
  5. Stamped the larger blue bird (on a die cut-coming soon) (You Hoo) colored with copics accented with white gel pen.
  6. Stamped the phrase at the bottom (Snail Mail), folded a small white piece of copy paper, inked edge (baby blue) stamped words (heart strings) for note.
  7. Mat digital on light blue paper, add ribbon to top. Pop dot larger bird, add a small slit in beak, add a bit of glue to back of head to give the note a place to hold on to.  Attach bird to top of digital/ribbon. Add a bit of glue to card base, so bottom of note also stays in place.
  8. Add a bit of glitz with the glitter pen, carefully go over some of the black lines, swirls only.

Official start:  Jan. 22 -08:00 (EST)
This blog hop will end on Jan. 25 , 2200 (that’s 8 pm, EST)
Theme: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle-Celebrate the New Year by finding a new way to use an old product!
I decided to go through my ’stuff’ drawer, and see what’s been hiding in there for a few years. I found 3 cork coasters..and thought..yeah…why not…I’ll stamp them, and then wood burn them…I decided to color them too…see what you think!
To  wood burn stamped images, you want to be sure they are large enough images with out TOO many details or they get lost in the burning process. I think these sets worked great! Click the thumbnails to see the larger images.
Sets used: Sitting Pretty (I LOVE the swirly stems in this set), BE Susan, Chicory, Golden Daffodils

Cards for Jaimie-blog hop

November 02, 2009 By: Pamela Category: Blog Hops, Card Art, News

We interrupt our regularly scheduled programming of our Spotlight Guest Designer to bring you this important blog hop.

If you have landed on my blog because you came from Megan Lock’s blog post then you are in the right place. If you came to this post from somewhere else, please start this hop on Katharina Frei’s blog (she’s the beginning of the hop)

Begin on Monday, November 2nd at 10am ET

End on Monday, November 9th at 10am ET.

This gives you all a week to make a card, and mail it to her and her father.

The story of Jaimie:

“On October 4th, 4 teenagers armed with knives broke into a home in a small town in New Hampshire. Alone and sleeping inside were a mother and her 11 year old daughter. These 4 boys broke into this home with the intent to rob and kill anyone inside. They stabbed the mom, Kimberly Cates, to death and left her daughter, Jaimie, for dead in their driveway. It was a completely random act, their home was chosen only due to its secluded surroundings.”

Our hope is that everyone hopping around today will stop for a moment and think about Jaimie and her father and what life must be like for them now. This incredibly selfish and RANDOM act  has changed their lives forever. We are asking that everyone reading this message please take a moment to make a card and send it off to Jaimie. You can make something very simple or much more involved, but please share some words of hope and love and let her know that people do care and want the best for her. Please send your card to the address below:

Jaimie Cates
c/o Mont Vernon Fire Station
Main Street
Mont Vernon, NH 03057

I hope you all will share a link for the new blog called “Stamp Something…for Jaimie: Spreading Love and Hope” where everyone  can read more about Jaimie and have all the info to send a card as well as join their special Card Drive Challenge. There are several generous sponsors who have kindly offered up some prizes to anyone who makes a card, posts it on their blogs, and lets them know the card was mailed.  (FCD included! I hope you will join us, and make a card for this young girl, I can’t even imagine what she is going thru)

I heard that Jaimie is not really a girlie girl, but likes hot pink and black. She likes outdoor activities such as biking, skateboarding, razor rip stick, snowboarding, and karate. AND  she is a black belt in karate. SO, here’s my card for Jaimie:

Stamp sets used: Karate (retired), Yoga 2 (Be strong phrase); Doodles-Inspire Me, Papers-RAK (thanks Carole)        Sketch-cased from Michelle Bartnett    UPDATE: I’ve added the karate trio images to my digital downloads page, here.
