Mini Canvas tutorial
I received another rak a bit ago, this one from Carole. She included this mini canvas, it’s the size of an ATC!! 2.5x 3.5 inches. I just knew I had to play with the fall flowers set, and create a fun piece of art. I MAY still add some beads, or brads to it….I’ve not yet decided. But in the mean time, here’s what I did with it!
Stamp sets used: Fall Flowers, Solid (tiny bfly), Clear single-Flourish Inks: - Adirondack: Sunshine Yellow, Sunset Orange (he he); Cats eye Color Box chalk-Yellow Cadmium; Memento-Tux. Black, Potters Clay Colors: TriArt markers: Y3-Walnut, Y5-Yellow Ochre, Y7-Golden yellow, Y-9 Canary, E4-Terra Cotta, SK2-Maple, G8-Yellow Green, 100-Black
Since there are SO many pix, I did them as thumbnails. Read them left to right, then down. (like you would a book) Click any of them for larger views.
Step 1:
just so you can see what the canvas looked like before I started on it
Stamp the image. I found it worked well, if I placed the canvas on top of the inked image, and rubbed it.
Be careful not to move the canvas, rub your fingers into the stamp.
Step 2:
Start adding color:
Work your way down, from the top of the canvas. If any of the colors look like they aren’t drying quickly enough, hit it with your heat tool for a few seconds.
if some fo the colors look really dark, just go back over with the lighter colors, they blen so nicely on the canvas. Just need to add a bit more yellow to fade that maple brown!
Step 3:
To finish-stamp flourish and wheat around the edge, add a bit of ink, and done.
- back of canvas
- front of mini canvas-before
- place the canvas on top of the inked stamp
- carefully rub the image from the back of the canvas
- Here's the stamped image!
- these are the TriArt markers
- add some color. I did the top of the flower first.
- blend in a second color getting lighter as you work towards the top of the flower's center
- Now add a lighter shade of brown
- Blend in some golden yellow
- finish blending with canary yellow
- now drag out some maple to give the petals some depth
- bring in more of the canary yellow
- add a bit of yellow green to the stem
- use some of the yellow ocher to shade
- finished flower
- stamp the words by placing your finger behind the canvas, and apply pressure from the back, towards the stamp
- here are the words!
- now stamp some flourishes around the edge, it's a small stamp, so I was able to stamp on the harder framed area
- I used yellows for the flourish, and did the bottom, and right side only
- stamped one of the wheat images using orange sunset
- here's the flourishes!
- start stamping the wheat images in potters clay and orange
- use the potters clay ink, and another wheat image for more dimension
- decided to add a leaf for balance
- stamped in green ink, didn't like that, so stamped over it with black
- let's add a butterfly!
- getting there!
- almost done!! added a few black dots with marker
- decided the edge needed a bit more color!
- adding ink!
- oh yes...that is quiet nice! hope you enjoyed this tutorial!
Hope you enjoyed this pictorial tutorial…grin

Awesome tutorial, I love the tiny canvas! I find the smaller pieces, especially ATC’s hard to work with but maybe now I’ll give it a try, lol. You make it look so easy, and I know its not!
This tut came at a wonderful time as I got a freebie small canvas at Retreat and have never worked on one before. Do you not have to size or prepare the canvas before stamping? Looking forward to working on mine now. Thanks for sharing.
This is really terrific!! Nice job capturing it in pictorial - I could easily follow along just by reading the short captions beneath each photo! Perfect, and oh-so-lovely!! :o)
Wow, it’s great! I love the small canvas. No to see if I can find them here too. That was a great tip on stamping on canvas. I do the same thing with my big stamps.
What a great idea! My Mom had this tiny canvas with bluebonnets on it, I always thought it was so pretty. She had it on one of those little canvas stands, your beautiful fall flower would be perfect for one of those little stands. Wonderful tutorial, thanks so much for the sharing all the steps!!
Wow. Lots of work there but looks like fun.

Oh WOW!!! This is totally awesome! Great tutorial chick!
This is wonderful, I will give it try. Are your markers the same as Copic markers?
