Fall Digital Image
Sooo, I’m toying with the idea of releasing some digital images for card making. They seem to be such a hot commodity, and my friend Judy has convinced me to give them a try. So while I’m figuring the ins and outs of selling them, you’ll be offered freebies right here on my blog! With my current schedule I’ll probably only get one a month on here, but I hope you think they are worth waiting for…lol….Images will be free for a limited time only.
Those of you who are familiar with my stamps, know that I like to create images that work with other images, and have ‘movable’ parts (so to speak). This makes my images very versatile so you can combine sets, and images are often sized to work across sets. For example, all of my scenic sets are created so you can combine them in hundreds of ways, and make tons and tons of scenes with 3 or 4 sets.
What I don’t usually do is what I refer to as ‘locked images’. An image that can’t really be changed up at all. For example, a vase full of flowers stamp. It will always be a vase full of flowers. You may be able to mask bits of it, and cut out other parts of it, but it will always be a stamp of a vase, full of flowers. These are great for quick stamping….and there are lots and lots of gorgeous locked images. They just aren’t my typical style. That being said…I do on occasion draw up this type of art, and I was thinking these might be just the kind of images I’d want to do as digital ’stamps’. I know they aren’t stamps, there is no rubber, no blocks, just you and your printer.
But they can make wonderful card art, and for someone who is having trouble holding their blocks, or getting good impressions from their beloved rubber, due to illness etc, digtial images must be a GOD SEND>>> To read a really great blog post on digital images from Stamper’s Quest, click here.
Soooo, here’s my pictorial of how I used my image. At the end of the pictorial, I’ll share the jpg of my image. Please do NOT change the file name of the jpg, as it’s the only way to know where the image came from. If you use my digital image, please give credit to FireCracker Designs Digitals. If you decide to d/l the image, you may want to create a folder and label it FCD (or FireCracker Designs) that way you will always have a place to save my digital art files, and you’ll be able to give credit as needed. Thanks
UPDATED: Oct. 30-I’ve added a DIGITAL FILES page at the top. You can download from there. thanks!
- I printed the image in 2 sizes. One for a 5x5 card, and one for 5x7 card.
- On the 5x7 card, I did not ink the edges.
- Print the digital image on card stock. I used Club Scrap, and my Epson inkjet all in one printer.
- Start coloring. I used TriArt markers. Started with a bit of dark brown for the darkest areas.
- Add a medium brown, going over the darker brown.
- Add another dark brown for shading.
- Now use the med. brown to blend out the edges of the darkest brown, working them into the medium brown areas.
- Add a light orange to the pumpkin
- add a nice warm orange, and a touch of darker orange for shading. agian using the med.color to blend out the edges.
- sorry this one is blurry. add reds
- sigh, blurry again...add yellows
- add darks and lights...I must have moved the camera and not realized it...
- arg! color the bowl
- add a bit of glimmer with pumpkin and sunflower shimmerz!
- add pumpkin shimmerz to well, the pumkin...lol...I also added a touch to the edge of some of the leaves, and to the berries
- small brush works great!
- see the pretty shimmer? I added sunflower shimmerz to the yellow sqaush, and to the edge of the bowl
- finishing touches-silver metal leaf
- add the magic of BIC markers....no more silver! lol
- use liquid glass to add dew drops that were colored with TriArt marker
- the 5x5 card inked edges, shimmerz and ribbon added
- close up, I added nut brown flower soft to the 5x7 card
- another angle, can you see the fs? lol
- how bout now? can you see it now? lol...

THANKS!!! This is a gorgeous image! Not sure how I will use it yet, but it is beautiful!
I downloaded it, because it is pretty, and because it is free.
I don’t know what is more amazing to me - that people will sell digital line art, or that people will buy it. Anyone can spend 10 bucks for a clipart library at their local office supply store and get thousands of royalty-free images. Dover Publishing gives away free coloring images every week. Why is anyone spending money on single images?
I could be wrong. I’m still figuring out why anyone would spend the money necessary to buy Copics. People are not cheap like me.
This is a terrific image. I’m already thinking of ways to use it. I love your gorgeous card. You’ve colored it so nicely.
I love it! What a great image and thank you so very much! I love digi stamps and images and I have just the project for this! Your card was just stunning and I love how you gave a tutorial on coloring it. Great colors and very clear instructions. Hope you don’t mind, but I plan on telling everyone I know that does digital stamps about your new venture! I love the convenience of digi stamps and that they’re so easy to store. Space is an issue for me so while I love my rubber (not so much wood, but the rubber!), I adore not having to look for another container to put my digi stamps in. Can’t wait to use this one! Good luck with your venture!
ahhhh! That turned out so lovely! Thanks for the step-by-step! While people *can* get clip art for free, they can’t get it exclusively designed by their favorite artist unless said artist releases digital! For that reason, I am positively thrilled you are doing this! Not only for people who just prefer the ease of digital, but also for those, like Judy, who have physical limitations that prevent them from playing with their rubber!
AND, how easily digital images could be adapted to Scrapbooking since they can be resized to fit as needed! WOOT!! :o)
Wow, awesome image. thank you so much for the freebie. I love digi images mainly because they are cheaper, easier to store and no wait as far as shipping goes. However, I still like to play with my rubber & acrylic stamps & ink. And like you said….some things one can not do with digis.
Thanks for an awesome image. I definitely will be using it and giving credit where credit is due. Thank you so much.
First I would like to say that your cards turned out lovely! I especially liked the 5×7 card. What I am noticing on the card is an embossed image of a leaf, so here are my questions: 1) are there more images I am not seeing? 2) what did you use to emboss the image in that particular place on the pumpkin if there are not any more images? 3) Did you heat imboss the orginal image before you colored in your image?
I also would like to add that I like how the FS made your image pop. What a great touch.
Thanks
Both of your cards are beautiful! I saved the image but I’m not sure what I’ll do with it, except it was made by you! LOL! I love the shimmerz and fs on it too. It sure didn’t look digital once you finished with it.
I snagged it too, not sure what I will do with it yet! But thank you!! I love the tutorial and the final card you have.
If I find five minutes for myself, I might give it a go!
I love this image- it is wonderful! I love that you printed it on orange/pumpkin paper. The step by step tutorial is also awesome. The shimmerz and flower soft really add so much to your card, and I love the idea of coloring metal with a Bic marker- how cool is that? I hope to get it colored soon……that said, I have to get to bed…… I hope to color tomorrow…..
Thanks so much for the freebie! I cannot wait for more in the future!
I printed and played with the image last night Pamela
You can see it right here .
I like the way it all came together and this is a great first image to get FCD Digital going
Your card is wonderful too I really like the way you did the step by step photo’s!
beautiful digi! I love the way you colored it. I love digi’s myself and have several of them. I love the fact that I can have instant gratification
I have been wanting to try digi stamps. Thank you for the beautiful image!
