Gilded Rainbow Tutorial
My apologies to Julie Warner, I thought I had posted this in November.
Hope you will try this tutorial with winter colors, and share what you make with us!!
Gilded Rainbow Background
by Julie Warner, for FireCracker Designs by Pamela
Supplies Needed:
1. Text weight paper (copy paper)
2. Rainbow ink pad (I used a Kaleidacolor Autumn Leaves ink pad)
3. Rubber Brayer
4. Embossing Powder ( I used Ranger’s Gilded Gold, it’s mostly clear with flecks of gold; try using a mix of clear & a little gold as a substitute)
5. Other Ink Pads ( I used Ancient Page Sienna, Distress Tea Dye & Fired Brick, Encore Ultimate Metallic Gold and Soft Wheat)
6. Heat Gun
1. Step One:
Brayer the entire piece of paper using the rainbow ink pad.
2. Step Two:
Crumple the piece of brayered paper into a ball.
3. Step Three:
Flatten out and ink the creases, direct to paper (DTP) with the Tea Dye ink.
Step 4:
Crumple the paper once again, flatten out and ink the creases with a darker ink (I used the Sienna ink). Repeat steps 3 & 4 using the Distress Fired Brick ink.
Step 5: (Optional)
I wanted to tone the color down a little, so I used the Soft Wheat ink all over the paper.
Step 6:
Crumple the paper a final time, smooth out and ink the creases with the metallic gold pigment ink.
Sprinkle on the embossing powder. Do not cover the entire paper. I used a little measuring spoon to drop the powder here and there. Tap off the excess and return to the jar. Heat the powder until melted and until any non coated areas are dry.
Step 8: Enjoy your finished background!
Here’s a card example using a piece of this finished background.

Thank you to Julie W. What a fun and easy background to create!

Wow that’s a lot of crumbling
Great tutorial, it looks like fun!
Awesome Pam! Looks like something to try while I am holed up during a roaring blizzard.
AWEsome, Julie!! I’m definitely going to try that this weekend when I am home for a few days! I just love that background; it looks so simple to make! I’ve crumpled paper and inked it DTP before, but never thought to crumple repeatedly and ink inbetween! What a fun idea!! :o)
Thank you Julie ( and Pamela ) …that is a great idea.
I love this technique. It sure looks easy. As soon as it warms up a little I’m gonna try this one.
